Sunday, November 9, 2014 am

Sunday, November 9, 2014 am. Sunrise 6:51 am. Hunting opens 6:21 am. Temperature: 38 degrees. Wind: S-SW changing to W 5-10 mph. Mostly sunny. Charley has been cutting teeth and has been running a fever since Monday. It has definately cut into my ability to hunt. I feel so bad for the little peanut. She started to feel better yesterday, so after Heidi's bow hunt in MN, she let me drive down to Copper. I got down around 8:15 pm. This morning I went up the the double ladder stand off first point. Taylor went to Acorn Alley. I was in and set up by 6:00 am. At 8:45 am, I had a smal doe/nubbin about 90 yards down the hil to the NW. At 9:45 am, I saw a doe trotting across the hillside to the west of me. She came down the hill and bedded about 30 yards to the SW of me. Behind her was a nice 3 1/2 year old 8 pointer. He stood back in the brush about 15 yards behind her. Another doe came over the hill behind him to the west of him. After about 10 minutes, He started to chase the second doe. She took off to the north. With all the commotion, the bedded doe got up and trotted off to the south and the buck follow her. I did get some video, but thee was no shot opportunity. At 11:40 am. I looked down the hill to the north and a small 7 pointer was working his way up the hill towards me. He walked through about 40 yards to the west of me and crossed over the top of the hill to the south bi rid get done video. I am pretty sure it was threesome buck that Taylor had seen an hour earlier. At 2:20 pm. I got down and moved to Twin Towers. On my way into a twin towers, I dropped a scent line on my way into the stand from the creek bottom. When I got to The stand, I had to move a v ladder that Steve had put on the east stand. After I got into the stand, I realized the milk crate that I was going to sit on was on the east stand. I had created a lot of noise moving the ladder, so I figured I was going to stand. Unfortunately, the stand had not been cleared out, so I was better off propping myself up on my backpack and butt pad. At 4:50 pm, I saw the siloutte of a deer coming up from the creek bottom about 60 yards to the east of me going north towards the corn field. I tried to see what it was but it was too dark and in the brush. I decided to do two short doe bleats to see if I could convince it to come my way. Immediately after I bleated, I heard some corn stalks break to my north. It was a nice buck coming from east to west at 23 yards away. I saw that he had some decent time length and knew this was going to be my last hunt. I decided that if I could stop him in the smll window under the tree canopy and between the corn stalks I would take the shot. I was about to grunt and stop him and he just stopped perfectly in the only opening that I had.  I drew back, settled the pin and shot. I say my arrow hit. It sounded great and the buck took off to the west. I heard a ton of loud crashing for about 10 seconds and the it was silent. After dark, I got down and snuck out to the east, past Black diamond and out to the road bi texted Taylor to bring his bow case and come and pick me up on the road bi didn't want to walk down to the creek bottom and start the ATV and rush spooking the deer. We waited for and hour and 15 minutes and decided to go and look. We drive the car down to the pull out and walked in past Black Diamond. We got the lanterns lit and it didn't take long to find the arrow and blood. He broke off about 8" of arrow that was still in him. We were fortunate that there was incredible amount of blood. He ran west about 30 yards, jumped the barbed wire fence and ran about 30 yards down the hill and died     He is a beautiful 9 pointer with an awesome split brow tine. I am guessing a 3 1/2 year old buck. What an awesome day.  Super happy to celebrate the harvest with my good friend Taylor. Thanks for your help. Totals: 7 deer b3 bucks and 4 does. 1 buck down!!!

We were both in by 6:05 am. At 6:50 am, I had the same 7 point buck as yesterday morning come through on the trail from the west. He passed by at 8 yards. I watched him make a scrape under the trees by the double culverts and head towards the telephone pole bridge. I am pretty sure he was heading over towards Adam. Adam had the same buck walk by him at 35 yards. He also saw a small buck chasing a doe earlier in the morning. I ended up sitting until 10:00 am, before I decided to get down and head in. As I was climbing down the ladder, there was a doe heading across the hill from east to west. Totals: Bob - 2 deer, 1 buck and 1 doe bAdam - 3 deer, 2 bucks.

She ended up turning and walking to the NW, jumped the creek, are in Arlie's food plot and then walking the fence line to the west. At 8:05 am, I looked over my right shoulder to the SW and there was a nice buck in the Stump food plot about 5-10 yards from the blind. I was able to grunt him over my way. He stopped and raked a tree about 50 yards to the SW of me. He then started heading over towards the creek stand. I did a couple of soft grunts and he tired and came my way. He ended up stoping directly under my stand, smelled the ladder and my bag and slowly walked off to the NE. I did get some awesome video. I sat until 10:00 am. That was it. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 pm. Sunset: 6:04 pm. Hunting closes: 6:34 pm. Temperature: 42 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: S-SW 3-5 mph. Heidi has been traveling since Monday and wanted to spend some time with Charley, so she suggested that I go and hunt. I had a video conference that finished at 4:00 pm, so I was able to get out immediately after it ended. I was in the VAT by 4:15 pm. I decided to put out Stubby the decoy along with some scent and a Tinks 69 burning scent wick. At 5:45 pm, a small 7 pointer came down the trail from the west. He has 4 on his left and 3 on his right with no brow tine. I guess is would be considered legal to shoot. He walked right into the food plot at 15 yards. He didn't like Stubby, as he snorted and ran up the hill towards the house. He could have gotten wind of me as well. At 5:50 pm, I heard some chasing taking place behind me yo the SE, but I could not see what it was. At 6:10 pm, I looked over my left shoulder to th SE and there were about 20 turkeys. They ended up flying up to roost. That was probably all the commotion that I had heard 20 minutes earlier. Attached is a photo of some of them on the roost. Also attached is a photo of the 7 pointer that I saw. Totals: Bob - 1 deer. 1 buck

A little warmer than I would want, but comfortable for sitting. Nate went to Rick Out. I went back to the ladder on the north side of 1st point and Taylor went to the ladder on the NW side of the second point. At 7:45 am, I looked down to the NE and saw a really nice buck coming up the hill towards me. He walked through my shooting lane at 15 yards. I am pretty sure he is the same 8 pointer that Taylor passed up yesterday. I did get some pretty good video. He ended up crossing the road and heading off to the south. Fun to see. At 8:45 am, all hell broke loose. I did two long bleats and followed it up with two loud grunts. I looked to the west and I saw a doe running for her life. Behind her was a least one mature buck. It may have been the same buck I passed on this morning. After running around some she came flying down the hill and though my shooting lane from west to east at 10 yards. He was chasing right behind her. It happened so fast that there was no way I could even get my bow drawn. However I did get some video. One word..."exciting."  They ran around by me for a few minutes and then they were gone. At 9:00, I did two loud doe bleats and followed it up with a couple of grunts. At 9:05 am, I heard branches breaking and deer running. A doe and fawn came running in from the east down the hill to the north of me. They both stopped in my shooting lane to the north of me at 10 yards. I thought for sure there was gong to be a buck following them but nothing came out. They just wandered off on there own to the west. At 10:00 am, a saw a big doe trotting along the hillside towards the west. Taylor couldn't find the metal gun stand on 2nd point, so he ended up going to a wood ladder stand out on 2nd point. He saw a doe with a small 7 and then a small 8 pointer following her. Nate grabbed a quick shower and we were off. Nate went to the front lower portable stand above fort curve and I went to Sherpa. It didn't take long. I had just climbed in, pulled up my bow,and was getting set up, when I heard footsteps and a loud grunt to the NE. First I saw the for come out. Then I saw the big 9 pointer. I think he has to be related to Captain Hook. I had not even gotten on my release or nocked an arrow, but was able to do so.  He never came any closer then 40 yards, but he stayed in the brush. He ended up heading back to the NE. At 4:45 pm, I heard more foot steps and another grunt up behind me to the NW. A big fat doe ran down behind me to about 10 yards. Unfortunately, I could not get turned around to see the buck. She walked off to the west towards Nate, and I never did see or hear the buck again. I was ready to go by 6:40 am. Adam is hunting this morning too and he decided to try the Ladder stand. Adam saw one small deer about 80 yards to the south of him. All I saw was about 25 turkeys. I climbed up into the stand  and I saw some movement to the west of me. It was a small 6 pointer about 40 yards away. He was going north but he ended up turning around and went to the south and the circled to the east about 50 yards out. He never had any idea that I was there. At 6:05 pm. I had a nice 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer come in to the scrape to the SE of me. He came from the south and walked pass at 12 yards. He smelled around the scrape for a minute or two and then walked off to the north. I did get some great video. At 6:40, Adam had a nice shooter buck walk through on the trail 60 yards down the hill going from east to west. He headed over to the VAT food plot. Had he been at the VAT, he may have had a shot opportunity. The wind would have been bad for the VAT. Totals: Bob - 2 deer, 2 bucks. Adam - 1 deer, 1 shooter buck.

At 5:30 pm, I heard some leaves rustling to the north of me. I got excited and started to get ready. Unfortunately, it was just a group of turkeys. At 6:10 pm, I had two coyotes come through from east to west about 20 yards to the south of me. I tried to get turned to my right to get a shot, but they sensed something and took off to the west. It was close. At 6:45 pm, they came back through from west to east but stayed in the brush at about 35 yards. I think they are screwing up my hunt. They did. That was it. Totals: Bob - 0 deer.

He was not a shooter, but still fun to see. Nice potential. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any video. I ended up sitting until 9:45 am.  That was it. Totals: Bob - 1 deer, 1 buck.

At 7:30 am, I heard some leaves rustle and then heard a soft grunt. Then I had a small 3 pointer (his left side was broken off) come through following the same path as the other deer. I did get some video of him. He then headed off to the NE. At 9:10 am, I had a doe and nubbin fawn come through on the same trail, except this time it was from east to west. Tuesday, September 30, 3014 pm. Sunset: 7:11 pm. Hunting closes: 7:41 pm. Temperature: 59 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: E-SE. Last week, I was finally able to get the camo fabric that Taylor was kind enough to give me wrapped around the Sugar Shack food plot stand. I have been excited to hunt this stand for a few years, but have never seemed to find the time to get the stand prepared. Now that it is finally done, I am bummed that I had not done it sooner. The wind was right, so I decided to give it a try tonight. I was all set up and ready to go by 5:20 pm. At 6:30 pm, I had a group of about 10 turkeys cross from east to west about 50 yards to the south of me. That was it. Totals: Bob: 0 deer.

Heidi got to hunt last night while I watched our daughter, so tonight was my opportunity. I decided to give the creek stand another try. I was all set up and ready to go by 5:30 pm. Hopefully a nice buck will show himself in my food plot during legal shooting light. Heidi was in the Apple Tree last night and said that she did see a nice buck by here last night. I just hope and pray he follows the same pattern tonight. Nothing to report. Totals: Bob - 0 deer.

Monday, September 15, 2014

Monday, September 15, 2014 pm

Monday, September 15, 2014 pm. Sunset: 7:23 pm. Hunting closes: 7:53 pm. Temperature: 61 degrees. Wind: W-NW at 3-5 mph. Mostly sunny. I got home from work at a decent time. Heidi is going to be overnighting tomorrow in Iowa, so she wanted to spend some time with Charley. She said that I could hunt and I took her up in the offer, before she changed her mind. I decided to give the creek stand a try and I was in and set up by 5:30 pm. At 6:40 pm, a big fat doe stepped out underneath the Apple Tree stand. Damn. Too bad Heidi was not out hunting tonight. She came down the hill towards me, but must have gone off to the south. It is so tough to see with all summer foliage. At 6:45 pm, a big doe appeared to the south of me. It could be the same one that came down from the AT. She stayed on the other side of the food plot about 45 yards out. At 6:50 pm, a big doe and her fawn came across the bridge to the SW of me. The doe and fawn walked right down the mowed path at 10 yards to the south of me. Then they jumped the creek and walked off to the NE. At 7:05 pm, I heard some commotion to the north of me. There were 4 deer, at least 2 were bucks (maybe all 4). It was tough to see as there were all in the tall brush and behind some trees. I tried to rattle to them, but they walked off towards Arlie's food plot. Both the bucks I did see were pretty small. I think the 4 and 6 pointers. If I had been in Spaghetti Junction, they would have been 10 yards from me. Totals: 7 deer, 2 ?'s, 2 bucks, 3 does.

Sunday, September 14, 2014 pm. Sunset: 7:24 pm. Hunting closes: 7:54 pm. Partly cloudy. Temperature: 62 degrees. Wind: N-NW 5-10 mph. After a great afternoon cutting up Dwayne's first bow kill,it was time to go hunting. His doe dressed at 135 lbs. It was impressive. She was very mature animal. A great deer to harvest. I decided to give the new driveway stand a try. Heidi went back to the Apple Tree and Adam went to Right Field. When Heidi crested the small hill on her way in, a big bodied 5pointer was standing under her tree eating walnuts. She dropped to her knees and knocked an arrow. Unfortunately, it was too small and not a legal buck. Still very cool to sneak up to him and get to 15 yards. At about 6:30 pm, Adam had a 7 pointer enter the girls from the SW. Over time it worked al the way over yo him and ended ip bedding underneath his stand. He thinks it was the same buck I saw this morning. At 7:15 pm, Heidi texted me that there was a for under the Apple tree. I ate apples for close to 30 minutes, but never offered her a shot. Totals: Bob- 0 deer. Adam- 1 deer, 1 buck. Heidi- 2 deer, 1 buck and 1 doe.

Sunday, September 14, 2014 am

Sunday, September 14, 2014 am. Sunrise: 6:57. Hunting opens 6:27 am. Temperature: 58 degrees. Partly cloudy. Wind: S 15-20. I decided to head back to RF. Heidi was in the Apple Tree and Adsm went to Pisa. We were all set up by 6:10 am. At 6:30 am, I had a nice 1 1/2 year old 6 pointer come across the field down the 2nd funnel about 100 yard to the SW of me. When he got to the tree line, he went west towards where Dwayne's doe ran last night. I did get some long distance shaky video. At 7:10 am, I had a small 7 point buck sneak in from the NE. He was 10 yards broadside. He was straight downwind of me and he never smelled me.  I guess that "Nose Jammer" works. That was it. Totals: Bob- 2 deer, 2 bucks. Heidi and Adam- 0 deer.
I did get some quick video. He ended up heading off to the SE. I saw him trot along the field edge and then head off to the east. Nice buck. Great potential for the future.

Saturday, September 13, 2014 pm

Saturday, September 13, 2014. Sunset: 7:26 pm. Hunting closes: 7:56 pm. Temperature: 60 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: S-SW 15-20 mph. Left the house at 5:00 pm. Heidi was going to the apple tree and there was already a big fat for eating apples. Too bad she wasn't in 15 minutes earlier. I went back to RF and Dwayne went to the Dump stand. At 6:40 pm, I saw two hen Turkestan the field 100 yards to the SW of me. At 7:00 pm, Dewayne texted me and said that he had shot a doe. While he was waiting, he had two more does come in behind him to the SW. We waited for 30 minutes snd then he went to look for blood. After he found some, I got down to go and help. After looking over the arrow, we decided that he probably hit her a bit back, so we snuck out and will look for her tomorrow. Fortunately, we were able to find her in the creek the next day. He hit her a bit back, but did get one lung and the liver. At 7.40 pm, Heidi had a small doe sneak in behind her, underneath her stand. She was not able to position herself for a shot, before she spotted her. Totals: Bob/ 0 deer. Heidi- 1 deer, 1 doe. Dwayne- 3 deer. 3 does.

2014 Bow opener

Saturday, September 13 , 2014. Sunrise: 6:53 am. Hunting opens 5:23 am. Mostly sunny. Temperature:43 degrees. Wind: S- SE 2-5 mph. Opening morning. It is great to be out again. 3 1/2 months of pure joy aged of us. Î   Dwayne went to NW Territory Heidi went to the Apple Tree and I went to Right Field. We were all up and in the stands by 6:00 am. At 6:40 am, Heidi had a decent sized 6 pointer come in from the east. He walked underneath her stand and then left to the north. At 7:15, Dwayne saw a decent size deer (thought it was a buck) come through from west to east, about 60 yards to the south of him. At 8:10 am, I had 1 huge fat doe with 2 of last years fawns step out and eat beans about 80 yards to the SW of me. At 8:20 am, they all walked by at 7 yards to the south of me. It killed me to let her walk, but I only have 1 MN tag this year. She would have been a great doe to take. Very mature. At 8:30 am, I had a doe and fawn come up the hill from the west. They both came out into the food plot and ended up walking off to the north east. Both deer were within 15 yards. At 8:00, Heidi saw a doe and fawn in the food plot to the SE of her. Totals: Bob- 5 deer, 5 does and fawns. Heidi- 3 deer, 1 buck and 2 does/fawns. Dwayne- 1 deer. He thinks it was a buck.

8-26-14

Below are 3 different buck that I have gotten on camera so far this summer.  Two are 8 pointer, 1 is a 9 pointer.  The one 8 is pretty wide and the 9 is fairly tall.  Both are candidates for this Falls' hit list. Keep checking for more updates from the 009 guys.
Buckslayer OUT!
