I went to Double D and Steve went up to the fort on the north field. It is the coldest morning of the season by far. I even wore my heavy boots. I tried to grunt him up the hill, but he just kept going. Too small to shoot anyways. I had to get back inside so Lon and Sue could go to the Badger game and I needed to get back to Cannon for her dance recital. I got down at 10:30 am. Totals: 6 deer, 4 does and 2 bucks.

Friday, November 11, 2016 pm. Sunset: 4:42 pm. Hunting closes: 5:12 pm. Temperature: 51 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: N-NE 5-10 mph. I have been waiting for this wind, and I finally got it. Mom and Charley gave me a ride down the road so I wouldn't spook any deer. I was all ready to go by 2:15 pm. I laid down a scent trail through the field and I put the buck and the doe decoy out front to the north of me in the field. At least I should see some deer tonight. Hopefully a big boy steps out, as I am running out of time. At 4:15 pm, I looked to the south and there were several does getting pushed/chased around by a nice shooter buck. I grunted and bleated hoping they would come up to investigate. At 4:45 pm, a two does came out in the field from the east 150 yards away. At 4:50 pm, a small 4-6 pointer came out into the field from the SE and scared the does away. Does and the same buck kept coming into the field down in the SE corner of the field. It is gun season in MN, so I had to put on the blaze orange, but there is no way I was going to pick up a gun. At 2:45 pm, I grabbed my Matthews Heli-M and headed out to the ladder stand. I am hoping that a good buck will come cruising through during daylight hours scent checking for a doe in heat. We will see. I only heard 3 gun shots tonight. They were all after 5:00 pm. Totals: Bob - 0 deer.

Sunday, November 6, 2016. Sunrise: 6:44 am. Hunting opens: 6:14 am. Temperature 49 degrees. Mostly sunny. A little foggy  in the morning. Wind: S-SE 2-4 mph. Almost slept through my alarm this morning with the time change. I set my alarm for 4:40 pm instead of am. I woke up on my own at 4:55 am. Thank God. This morning I decided to go to the QDM stand out between 2nd and 3rd point. I was all set by 6:00 am. I decided to set up the buck and die decoy about 15 yards to the south of me. We will see. At 6:55 am, I had a different really dark rack 8-10 point nice 2 1/2-3 1/2 old buck come through. He came up the hill from the west, directly in front of me. He got to 40 yards and saw the decoys. He was not impressed and trotted off to the SW. At 10:45 am, I heard some leaves rustling behind me to the east. I looked back and it was 5 Tom's all together. Cool to see, but not exactly what I am looking for. At 11:00 am, I had a small mutant spike come up the hill from west to east about 40 yards to the north of me. That was it. If I don't get any action  by then, I will head in, recharge the battery, watch some of the Badger game, and head over for the evening sit at Twin Towers or Blue Square. At 8:40 am, I saw my first 1 1/2 year old buck. He was 75 yards away going across and up the hill to the NW. I think he was a small 6 pointer. Fun to get some action. At 10:10 am, I heard something coming through behind me. I turned it it was a nice 8-10 pointer coming up the hill towards me. I had laid down a scent trail on my way in, and I thought he was going to follow it right in. When he got to 30 yards, he turned south and headed across the hill. Too small, but no shot anyways. At 11:50 am, I heard a branch break behind me. I looked down the hill and there was a small 4 pointer moving from north to south about 80 yards down the hill from me. At 1:30 pm, I heard something walking towards me from the south. He walked by heading towards the NE down the hill from me. The closest he got to me was 40 yards away. This morning, I decided to go to the QDM stand between 2nd and 3rd point. I was ready to roll at 6:55 am. I sat there until 11:30 am. I just could not take not seeing any deer anymore. I was packing up, a I looked up and there was a doe sneaking through from north to south the to west of me 35 yards away. I let her leave as I was already committed to moving. After I got down, I spooked another doe that was bedded behind me. I grabbed all my gear and walked over to the north point stand out on 2nd point. At 12:45 pm, I just caught a glimpse of a pretty good buck. He could have been a shooter. 70 yards away in the brush. Moving from north to south to the west of me. I grunted and bleated, but he just kept on moving. At least I am seeing some deer. At 1:05 pm, I heard a buck chasing a doe below me coming from south to north. They ended up circling me and heading to the east. The closest he got was 40 yards l, but he was in the brush. They were heading the direction of the stand I had just left. So close!  I forgot my safety strap at QDM and after the hunt I went back to get it. Of course, there were deer all around that stand. Go figure. Totals: 4 deer. 3 does and one 9 point buck.

November 1, 2016 pm

Tuesday, November 1, 2016 pm. Sunset: 5:55 pm. Hunting closes: 6:25 pm. Temperature: 71 degrees. Mostly sunny. Hot. Wind: W-NW 3-5 mph. I left Cannon Falls at 12:15 pm. Made a couple of stops and headed to Romance. I just had a feeling. I was hoping to get up into the back valley, but with all the flooding this summer, I was afraid that I was going to get my car stuck. So, I decided to go to the Creek stand. I was at the base of the tree by 2:45 pm. As I was preparing to climb in, something spooked behind me and took off to the east. It sounded like a freight training crashing through the brush. The stand has not been hunted in a while, so I had to clear out some brush. If anything comes through here tonight, I will be able to hear it coming from a long ways away. At 4:15 pm, I had a big fat doe come through from the NW. She walked right down the road slowly at 10 yards. I thought seriously about popping her, but I really didn't know how I was going to get her out of there. I would have had to have gone back to Copper and grabbed the cart, and then driven back up here to get her. I didn't think it was going to be worth all of the hassle, so I decided to let her walk. At 6:05 pm, I had a beautiful 3 1/2 year old 8 pointer come down the trail from the north. He stopped about 25 yards to the north of me. I got some good video. He was tempting, but still too small. He ended up circling me and walked through the brush around me and out to the field edge. He walked along the edge of the field heading south. Totals: Bob - 2 deer. 1 buck and 1 doe.

Tuesday, November 1, 2016 am

Tuesday, November 1,  2016. Sunrise: 7:49 am. Hunting opens: 7:19 am. Temperature 57 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: W-SW 3-5 mph. This morning I am in Cannon Falls still. I decided to stay overnight, hunt MN in the morning and then leave for Wisconsin. I was up and out the door and settled in at the dump stand by 7:05 am. At 7:30 am, I hear a grunt up the hill to the south of me. I look and there is a guy sneaking on the ground at the top of the hill with a cross bow smoking a cigarette. What a #%*~&$ idiot. I whistle and waved and he finally saw me and left. Moron. So pissed. Sat until 10:15 am. Decided to pack it in early so I could get to Sconie. Totals: Bob-0 deer.

Sunday, October 30, 2016 pm

Sunday, October 30, 2016 pm. Sunset: 6:02 pm. Hunting closes: 6:32 pm. Temperature: 44 degrees. Mostly cloudy. Wind: E-NE 3-5 mph. We got back from Copper around 2:00. Right as we pulled in the driveway, Gary Samuelson was getting ready to cut our corn. I knew that I needed to get set up while he was cutting. The setup was perfect, I was in the stand by 2:55 pm and I was able to sneak in undetected. I decided to try a scent wick, do I lit it and placed a bucket with holes drilled into it about 10 yards to the east of me. He had everything done, picked and out of here by 4:20 pmAt 5:45 pm, I heard something behind me. It was a small nubbin buck. He stayed back about 40 yards and fed. He never came through and he went back to the west. That was it. Totals: Bob - 1 deer, 1 nubbin buck.
