Good news. With the recent weather, Heidi and I were able to finish planting all of our food plots. See attached. It was a ton of work getting them dug up, turned over and tilled between all of the rain storms and flooding. Every time we were getting close to being able to plant, it rained and muddied up the fields. Heidi was a huge help with the broadcast hand seeder and dragging all of the food plots after they have been planted. THANK YOU Heidi!! I would estimate that we planted over 4 acres this year. Around the edges of every food plot, we planted with a hybrid clover from Pennington seed company called Durana (white clover) and Patroit (white and red clover called Buckmaster Ultimate). The middle of the Shack and VAT food plots we planted with Pennington's "Rack Master" Spring/Summer mix. This mix is not round up ready, but is a blend of chick peas, cow peas, soybeans, sunflower and sorghum and various other annuals. Supposedly it is designed to "choke out" the weeds, so we will see how it does this year. The middle of the other four food plots was done with round up ready soy beans. The perimeter of all the food plots should produce the clover which I will be able to drive on and mow several times during the summer depending on the yield. I am really excited for this fall, since I believe the food plots look the best they ever have after planting. Now we just need some rain and sun to get these attractants going.
Stay tuned. I will plan on posting more photos of the food plots once they start growing. Also, I will plan on getting out the cameras in mid July so that we can start deciding on potential targets for this fall.
