Tuesday, September 30, 2014 pm

Tuesday, September 30, 3014 pm. Sunset: 7:11 pm. Hunting closes: 7:41 pm. Temperature: 59 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: E-SE. Last week, I was finally able to get the camo fabric that Taylor was kind enough to give me wrapped around the Sugar Shack food plot stand. I have been excited to hunt this stand for a few years, but have never seemed to find the time to get the stand prepared. Now that it is finally done, I am bummed that I had not done it sooner. The wind was right, so I decided to give it a try tonight. I was all set up and ready to go by 5:20 pm. At 6:30 pm, I had a group of about 10 turkeys cross from east to west about 50 yards to the south of me. That was it. Totals: Bob: 0 deer.

Monday, September 22, 2014 pm

Monday, September 22, 2014 pm. Sunset: 7:08 pm. Hunting closes: 7:38 pm. Mostly sunny. Temperature: 70 degrees. Wind: S-SW 3-5 mph. Heidi got to hunt last night while I watched our daughter, so tonight was my opportunity. I decided to give the creek stand another try. I was all set up and ready to go by 5:30 pm. Hopefully a nice buck will show himself in my food plot during legal shooting light. Heidi was in the Apple Tree last night and said that she did see a nice buck by here last night. I just hope and pray he follows the same pattern tonight. Nothing to report. Totals: Bob - 0 deer.

Monday, September 15, 2014 pm

Monday, September 15, 2014 pm. Sunset: 7:23 pm. Hunting closes: 7:53 pm. Temperature: 61 degrees. Wind: W-NW at 3-5 mph. Mostly sunny. I got home from work at a decent time. Heidi is going to be overnighting tomorrow in Iowa, so she wanted to spend some time with Charley. She said that I could hunt and I took her up in the offer, before she changed her mind. I decided to give the creek stand a try and I was in and set up by 5:30 pm. At 6:40 pm, a big fat doe stepped out underneath the Apple Tree stand. Damn. Too bad Heidi was not out hunting tonight. She came down the hill towards me, but must have gone off to the south. It is so tough to see with all summer foliage. At 6:45 pm, a big doe appeared to the south of me. It could be the same one that came down from the AT. She stayed on the other side of the food plot about 45 yards out. At 6:50 pm, a big doe and her fawn came across the bridge to the SW of me. The doe and fawn walked right down the mowed path at 10 yards to the south of me. Then they jumped the creek and walked off to the NE. At 7:05 pm, I heard some commotion to the north of me. There were 4 deer, at least 2 were bucks (maybe all 4). It was tough to see as there were all in the tall brush and behind some trees. I tried to rattle to them, but they walked off towards Arlie's food plot. Both the bucks I did see were pretty small. I think the 4 and 6 pointers. If I had been in Spaghetti Junction, they would have been 10 yards from me. Totals: 7 deer, 2 ?'s, 2 bucks, 3 does.

Sunday, September 14, 2014 pm

Sunday, September 14, 2014 pm. Sunset: 7:24 pm. Hunting closes: 7:54 pm. Partly cloudy. Temperature: 62 degrees. Wind: N-NW 5-10 mph. After a great afternoon cutting up Dwayne's first bow kill,it was time to go hunting. His doe dressed at 135 lbs. It was impressive. She was very mature animal. A great deer to harvest. I decided to give the new driveway stand a try. Heidi went back to the Apple Tree and Adam went to Right Field. When Heidi crested the small hill on her way in, a big bodied 5pointer was standing under her tree eating walnuts. She dropped to her knees and knocked an arrow. Unfortunately, it was too small and not a legal buck. Still very cool to sneak up to him and get to 15 yards. At about 6:30 pm, Adam had a 7 pointer enter the girls from the SW. Over time it worked al the way over yo him and ended ip bedding underneath his stand. He thinks it was the same buck I saw this morning. At 7:15 pm, Heidi texted me that there was a for under the Apple tree. I ate apples for close to 30 minutes, but never offered her a shot. Totals: Bob- 0 deer. Adam- 1 deer, 1 buck. Heidi- 2 deer, 1 buck and 1 doe.

Sunday, September 14, 2014 am

Sunday, September 14, 2014 am. Sunrise: 6:57. Hunting opens 6:27 am. Temperature: 58 degrees. Partly cloudy. Wind: S 15-20. I decided to head back to RF. Heidi was in the Apple Tree and Adsm went to Pisa. We were all set up by 6:10 am. At 6:30 am, I had a nice 1 1/2 year old 6 pointer come across the field down the 2nd funnel about 100 yard to the SW of me. When he got to the tree line, he went west towards where Dwayne's doe ran last night. I did get some long distance shaky video. At 7:10 am, I had a small 7 point buck sneak in from the NE. He was 10 yards broadside. He was straight downwind of me and he never smelled me.  I guess that "Nose Jammer" works. That was it. Totals: Bob- 2 deer, 2 bucks. Heidi and Adam- 0 deer.
I did get some quick video. He ended up heading off to the SE. I saw him trot along the field edge and then head off to the east. Nice buck. Great potential for the future.

Saturday, September 13, 2014 pm

Saturday, September 13, 2014. Sunset: 7:26 pm. Hunting closes: 7:56 pm. Temperature: 60 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: S-SW 15-20 mph. Left the house at 5:00 pm. Heidi was going to the apple tree and there was already a big fat for eating apples. Too bad she wasn't in 15 minutes earlier. I went back to RF and Dwayne went to the Dump stand. At 6:40 pm, I saw two hen Turkestan the field 100 yards to the SW of me. At 7:00 pm, Dewayne texted me and said that he had shot a doe. While he was waiting, he had two more does come in behind him to the SW. We waited for 30 minutes snd then he went to look for blood. After he found some, I got down to go and help. After looking over the arrow, we decided that he probably hit her a bit back, so we snuck out and will look for her tomorrow. Fortunately, we were able to find her in the creek the next day. He hit her a bit back, but did get one lung and the liver. At 7.40 pm, Heidi had a small doe sneak in behind her, underneath her stand. She was not able to position herself for a shot, before she spotted her. Totals: Bob/ 0 deer. Heidi- 1 deer, 1 doe. Dwayne- 3 deer. 3 does.

2014 Bow opener

Saturday, September 13 , 2014. Sunrise: 6:53 am. Hunting opens 5:23 am. Mostly sunny. Temperature:43 degrees. Wind: S- SE 2-5 mph. Opening morning. It is great to be out again. 3 1/2 months of pure joy aged of us. Î   Dwayne went to NW Territory Heidi went to the Apple Tree and I went to Right Field. We were all up and in the stands by 6:00 am. At 6:40 am, Heidi had a decent sized 6 pointer come in from the east. He walked underneath her stand and then left to the north. At 7:15, Dwayne saw a decent size deer (thought it was a buck) come through from west to east, about 60 yards to the south of him. At 8:10 am, I had 1 huge fat doe with 2 of last years fawns step out and eat beans about 80 yards to the SW of me. At 8:20 am, they all walked by at 7 yards to the south of me. It killed me to let her walk, but I only have 1 MN tag this year. She would have been a great doe to take. Very mature. At 8:30 am, I had a doe and fawn come up the hill from the west. They both came out into the food plot and ended up walking off to the north east. Both deer were within 15 yards. At 8:00, Heidi saw a doe and fawn in the food plot to the SE of her. Totals: Bob- 5 deer, 5 does and fawns. Heidi- 3 deer, 1 buck and 2 does/fawns. Dwayne- 1 deer. He thinks it was a buck.
