More Practice Shooting

The girls were able to make it this week!  We added some branches along with between shots (25, 27yds).  Next week we will be shooting from elevated areas and will incorporate more between shots as well as more branches and other obstacles to create the reality you may face while hunting.  Everyone dreams of the perfect shot, but how many people actually get to take a true perfect shot with no obstacles?

Another week closer to killing a whitetail, we cannot wait.

VAT Rebuilt!

All,  Great news.

We were able to resurrect the VAT.  The old oak tree fell down last week and we had to reconstruct it about 20 yards to the east.  Theron, Little, Heidi and I were able to rebuild it using some old telephone poles.  Eric Haag was kind enough to share some ideas on how he has done this on his property in central Wisconsin.  Thanks.
Special thanks to Theron, Little and Heidi for all of their help.  It is great to have some friends who know what they are doing.  We will still have to wrap the stand with a old torn up pop up blind that I had found on the property a few years back.  Then we will have to trim some shooting lanes and it will be good to go this fall.  Enjoy the photos.  6 weeks to go!!  Buckslayer out!

Weekly Practice at the 009

Practice makes perfect!

New tradition here at the 009.  Weekly target practice with a nice grill out every week.  Should make for more dead deer this year! It has been fun and we can't wait for the coming weeks as it can only get better and better.

We missed the girls in these shots as one was late and the other was sick.....we will make sure to include them next week.  Thanks to Kathryn Nobach for the wonderful photography this week.

7-20-12 VAT GONE!

Well, it is a sad day.  I went down to check the food plots today as many were destroyed during the floods last month.  I am in the process of rebuilding them so that they will attract some deer this fall.  When I got down to the VAT food plot, this is what I saw. Complete destruction.  (see pictures) The entire tree (an old oak) had fallen down.  At least it fell to the SE and did not further destroy the food plots.  We will now have to buy a portable ladder stand to replace it.  I think we can move it to a tree that is about 15 yards to the west of where the VAT was.  The only good things is the boys will be happy as we are going to be cutting and dragging out fire wood next Sunday, July 29, 2012.  There is a ton of wood that will keep their places warm during the winter.  More to come.  Buckslayer OUT!

Wednesday July 18, 2012

The cameras have only been out for a few days.  Nothing great yet.  One decent 8 pointer.   It is nice seeing some bucks that will have some potential for the 2013 season.  Enjoy.  Buckslayer

I was sitting in my office working this morning and look what walked out of the corn field in my front yard.  It is a pretty nice Tom about 15 yards from my house, on my driveway.  Nice beard and some great spurs.  Less than 2 months from the archery deer opener.  Counting the days.  Buskslayer OUT!
