At the 11505

Pagel Land

Last year we added a couple of new stands to my parents house and had my brother Brendon, my dad, my buddy Theran (not to be mistaken with my brother Theron), and myself hunt there. We were not sure what we were getting into as we had no cameras out and had not hunted the land for years. Well, the boys all gun hunted and I did a little bit of bow hunting. Theran ended up having a small six pointer walk directly under him and saw some does in the distance. My brother Brendon was able to shoot a doe from the same stand. I was able to get some video of a couple of small bucks also.

This year we decided to clear out two areas and make some food plots. We also added two cameras by the food plots to see what was around. The plots are coming in real nice and to our surprise, we have some really nice bucks in there too! It is very excited to see, even after one year of managing and with the "4-point" rule in effect, how big the deer are getting, and to be able to give a couple of these deer one more year would be awesome, they could become monsters! The only problem is, it is a small area of land and there are always other hunters around that may not manage like we would like to, but such is life.

Here are some pictures of the deer we have.

I think these deer are two and a half year olds. The one in the back is a ten, and I think the one in the front is a nice 8.

I think these next two pictures are of the same deer. I think he is a 3 and a half year old 9 pointer. The flash didn't go off in the first picture and the second picture he was spooked by something, so we are still waiting for a good picture of him.

Let me know what you think of the ages, maybe they are older! How much more are they going to grow? Seems to me they should gain a few more inches, which would be great! I think the 9 is the one and only I would shoot, but Theran, and my brother have yet to shoot a buck, so any of these deer would be great deer for their first!
