August 18, 2010. Finally we have a potential shooter on camera. He is not huge, but probably a 3 1/2 year old 9-pointer. We also have at least one more 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer that should be really nice if he makes it another season.
Theron Pagel, Taylor Pagel, Ken Pagel, Matt Norstad and I did some major work in the woods last Saturday. We took out close to 100 big pieces of timber that were dead. Most of them were already on the forest floor, but Ken and Theron dropped a couple of other big trees that were already dead. The majority were ash, oak, elm, and a few box elder. I was very pleased to get them out of the woods. It was a ton of work, but the boys should have plenty of firewood for their stoves this winter. We had two tractors and two chain saws going. Most of the pieces are 10-20' long and we stacked them in a huge pile near the pole shed. They will be easy to get to this fall. We will still need to cut them to size, split them, and haul them over to the boys house, but I am glad to have them out of the woods. Still a lot more to take out.
More to come. Season opens 1 month from yesterday. Buck Slayer Out!
