Sunday, October 30, 2016. am

Sunday October 30, 2016. Sunrise: 7:37 am. Hunting opens: 7:07 am. Temperature 50 degrees. Mostly cloudy. Wind: N 5-10 mph. We got home from the game a little after midnight, so after a short nights rest, it was time to get back at it. It is getting to be prime time and you need to maximize and get every hour you can in the woods. I decided to go back to DD and was set up by 6:50 amAt 8:15 am, I had a little chill so I got undressed and put on a vest. As soon as I finished and got my coat back on, I heard something behind me. It was a nice 8 pointer (2 1/2 year old) snuck in behind me going from north to south. I grunted to him several times and he walked/trotted off to the SE. I ended up sitting until 10:20 am. I needed to get back, get packed so we can hunt Minnesota tonight. Totals: Bob 1 deer, 1 buck.

Saturday, October 29, 2016. Sunrise: 7:36 am. Hunting opens: 7:06 am. Temperature 52 degrees. Mostly sunny. Super foggy in morning. Wind: SE 3-5 mph. We came down to Copper Creek last night. I was up and out the door by 6:40 am. I decided to give the new stand the Double D a shot. I was ready to go by 6:50 am. I parked the Ranger at the base of Cherry valley. At 7:30 am, there were some deer blowing a warning call to the NE of me. It must have been spooked by the Ranger. At 8:25 am, I heard a deer moving behind me going from south to north. It was a beautiful 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer. He came through about 30 yards down the hill from me. He slowly worked his way off to the NE. At 9:35 am, I heard something walking over the ridge to the NW of me. I took out my grunt tube, let out a short series of grunts and I brought in a beautiful 135" 3 1/2 year old 10 pointer. Huge body. He came across the hill and to within 10 yards of me broadside. He was super tempting, but I decided to pas and let him live. Fun to see. Would you have let him live?  I sat until 11:00 am. I had to get inside to get ready for the Badger game. Totals: Bob - 2 deer. 2 bucks.

I shut my computer st 3:20 pm, showered, got dressed and headed down to the Sugar Shack food plot stand.   I quietly snuck over yo the VAT, because I had stashed "Stumpy" my buck decoy. I put him out in the food plot about 10 yards to the SE of the stand. Nothing to report. Totals: Bob - 0 deer.

A few potential shooters.

Sunday, October 23, 2016 am

Sunday, October 23, 2016 am. Sunrise: 7:36 am. Hunting opens 7:06 am. Temperature: 47 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: SW- 5-10 mph. Keeping with the low impact strategy, I decided to give the Ridgeback stand a try. I don't want to burn out the best stands for when the rut is in full swing. I was all set up by 6.55 am. A little later then I was hoping for, but I had to get another batch of sticks in the smoker this morning. Just before I got down, I noticed that there were 5 Tom turkeys about 60 yards down the hill to the east by the Point stand. Totals: Bob - 0 deer.

Saturday, October 22, 2016 pm

Saturday, October 22, 2016 pm. Sunset: 6:14 pm. Hunting closes: 6:44 pm. Mostly dint. Temperature: 62 degrees. Wind N-NE 3-5 mph. This morning, we got together to make a 50# batch of smoked cheddar sticks made out of Don's elk from last year. Don and Mary offered to watch Charley, so I jumped at the chance to go hunt. I decided to give the VAT a try. The elm that the stand is build in died, so this might be the last year it can be used. I was all set up by 3:50 pm. At 6:20 pm, I had a nice shooter buck (I think he was a 9) come through from west to east about 60 yards away and through the brush. He walked right up past the dump stand. I wish I had been sitting there tonight. Attached is a picture of the buck that I am pretty sure that I saw tonight.
That was it. Totals: Bob - 1 deer, 1 shooter buck.

Sunday, October 9, 2016 pm  Sunset: 6:36pm. Hunting closes: 7:06 pm. Temperature: 60 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: S-SE 5-10 mph.  Heidi promised Charley that they would make cupcakes when she got up from her nap. That gave me the hall pass to go and hunt. I am still keeping the bulk of the property on shut down, except for the ladder stand. I was all set up by 4:30 pm. I saw about 25 turkeys. A group of 20 came though from west to east about 50 yards to the south of me. I had a group of 4 move through from west to east about 30 yards to the north of me. No deer. Totals: Bob - 0 deer.
