Friday, October 31, 2025 am Sunrise 7:35 am. Hunting opens at 7:05 am. Sunset: 5:56 pm. Hunting closes at 6:26 pm. Temperature 37 degrees. Wind: N-NW 2-4 mph. I’m out again for another full day sit. Day 3 of 4for this trip. I decided to head back to the north side ladder water hole stand, hoping to find a thirsty mature buck. We will see. It didn’t take long. At 7:15 am, I had a small 4 pointer come in from the NE to 8 yards. He sensed something wasn’t right and headed back off to the east. I’m glad he wasn’t a big boy, because he really never offered a decent shot. At 8:40 am, I looked over my shoulder to the north and there was a decent 1 1/2 year old 8 pointer crossing the field going west to east 125 yards away in the saddle. At 10:00 am, I had a doe come up the road from the south and drank from the watering hole. She then turned and headed down to the SW. At 10:05 am, I had a doe, a small basket 4 and a stud 9 pointer come in from the east. He came right into the watering hole. I probably drew my bow too early as I had to hold it for about 30 seconds before he got broadside. I was so concerned that he was going to jump the string, so I put my 20 yard pin low on his chest. I shot and it went right underneath him. 2” too high on Wednesday and 2” too low today. I am sick. He really never spooked as I had time to knock another arrow, but he never offered me another chance. He was so busy chasing off the little buck. Eventually he went back to the east where he came from. At 3:30 pm, I had a small doe come in from the SW. She kind of circled me to the east. While she was 30 yards to the east of me, I saw there was a small 4 pointer on the road following her. They both headed down the hill to the east. At 5:10 pm, I looked to the SW, and I saw a a nice 10 pointer coming towards the water hole. The wind was coming from the west and I knew I couldn’t wait until he got to the watering hole. I thought, if he gave me a shot, I was going to take it as soon as he cleared the tree in front of me. I did. I hit him perfect. I gave him 10 minutes and decided to see what happened at impact. I had lots of hair and good blood, so I decided to follow him until he went over the hill and if I didn’t see him bin would back out. I followed great blood for 60 yards and then an insane my arrow and the buck was dead 10 yards from there. I gutted him and had him back to camp after dark. Totals: 8 deer. 5 bucks and 3 does. 2 shooters. 1 down. First Halloween buck for me.

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 pm Sunset 5:58 pm Hunting closes at 6:28 pm Temperature 50 degrees. Wind: N- NE 15-20 mph. I headed back to the north field ladder stand, hoping that buck would cruise back through. I was ready to go by 2:45 pm. At 5:05 pm, I had a doe and her fawn come down the road from the south heading north. They came right in and got a drink from the watering hole they both ended up heading off to the NE. At 6:15 pm, I had a mature wide 8 pointer come in from the NE at 10 yards. He walked through and got a drink at the water hole. I passed on him not knowing about the buck I had shot in the morning. He was bigger than the buck I had shot, but it was the right thing to do. That was it. Totals: 3 deer. A doe and fawn and 1 mature 8 pointer.

Thursday, October 30, 2025 am Sunrise 7:34 am. Hunting opens at 7:04 am. Sunset: 5:58 pm. Hunting closes at 6:28 pm. Temperature 32 degrees. Wind: N-NE 3-5mph. Foggy. Then mostly sunny once the fog lifted. I was able to secure a dog tracker out of La Farge. His name is Zach Taylor. He met me at the house at 7:00 am. We spent 2 hours looking for the buck I hit yesterday. Nothing. He was extremely confident that the buck was fine and still running. I headed back to the house to grab a quick shower, pack a lunch and headed out. I decided to head up to the Eagles Nest to give the north side a rest. I was all set and ready to go by 10:20 am. I bumped a few deer on my way in, but I should be fine sitting the rest of the day. Rob’s guys have been cutting up here, so there is some great visibility now. At 2:00 pm, I heard something behind me to the west. The neighbor was riding his ATV and kicked these 2 does past me. They crossed behind me about 10 yards away and they headed off down the hill to the east. At 2:05 pm, I had a small doe come across the hill to the west of me going from south to north. At 2:07 pm, I saw a small 6 pointer buck do the same thing as the doe, but was about 40 yards away going from south to north. At 2:45 pm, I had a small doe (may have been the same one as earlier come behind me, below the rock outcrop. She ended up heading down the hill to the north. She got to with 35 yards of me. At 3:15 pm, I had the same buck I saw earlier come from behind me and walked under my stand and off to the south and over the hill down the road. He is actually a 7 pointer. At 5:50 pm, I had another small 7’pointed come up the hill from the west. I was planning on getting some video, until I noticed a nice mature 10 pointer behind him. Of course, the little buck comes up and offers me a broadside shot and the big boys circles me to the north 35 yards away and in the brush. Snake bitten! Totals: 7 deer. 4 does and 3 bucks. Wednesday, October 29, 2025 am Sunrise 7:34 am. Hunting opens at 7:04 am. Temperature 41 degrees. Wind: N-NE 10-15 mph. Mostly sunny. I drove down last night after dropping Charley off at hockey practice to Copper Creek. Steve was already down here. I ended up getting here around 7:15 pm. After a good nights rest, I decided to give the north side field ladder stand a try. Steve is meeting the managed forest guy at 9:00 am to tour the property, so I knew I would only be sitting until 11:00 or so. At 8:15 am, I looked to the south and there was a small doe 80 yards away going from east to west. At 9:00 am, I saw 2 fawns in the same place I had seen the doe earlier. I decided to pull out my grunt tube to see if I could get them to come closer and hopefully bring along a good buck. At 9:01 am, I looked to my left and the was a nice tall 8 pointer coming into the water station. It rained last night, so I was not able to hear him until he was on top of me. I decided it was too good of opportunity to pass. I quickly drew my bow, settled my pin and hit the release while he was taking a drink. He took off to the SW. I waited 15 minutes and snuck down to grab my arrow. It was a pass through. There was a bunch of hair and some blood, so I backed out. Kurt has a camera on the water hole and got video of the whole encounter. We looked at the video, and the buck dropped about a foot at the shot and I hit him a little high. I gave him 3 hours before I went to look. I did find a pretty good blood trail for the first 150-175 yards and then it disappeared. So bummed. Saturday,September 27, 2025 pm Sunset 7:00 pm Hunting closes at 7:30 pm Temperature 78 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: N- NW 2-4 mph. I am back behind the barns at Copper for an evening sit. On my way in there was a big doe already in the plot having supper. She took off to the west. At 5:00 pm, I had a fawn spook behind me to the north of me she ran off to the east and up the hill to the NE. At 6:30 pm, I looked behind me to the north and there was a good buck 40 yards away. He ended up spooking back up to the north. It looked like it could have been a shooter. At 7:00 pm, I looked over and there was 4 does and 2 small bucks 3 pointer and a 6 pointer in the southern food plot. They sparred a little. They did come a little closer but they were in the brush 40 yards away. It got dark and Brian drove in a got them all to scatter so I could get down. Totals 8 deer, 3 bucks and 5 does.

Friday September 26, 2025 pm Sunset 7:01 pm Hunting closes at 7:31 pm Temperature 78 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: N- NW 2-4 mph. I am back behind the barns at Copper for an evening sit. On my way in there were 2 does on the road to the north about 125 yards away. They watched me climb into the stand and they eventually took off to the north. At 5:30 pm, I had a nice big fat doe 50 yards to my SW. she smelled me, snorted and took off to the south. At 6:20 pm, I had a small 3 point buck came behind me from the NW. He came through at 15 yards, turned south and walked into the food plot. At 6:23 pm, a big doe came through, stopped and fed for 40 minutes about 25 yards to the north of me. She finally came into the food plot. I could have shot her at 12 yards. At 7:05, a nice tall, narrow 8 pointer came on the same trail. He was tempting, but I decided to pass. They both ended up spooking up to the east of me. I did have Brian drive in after dark to make sure there were not any more deer around, so I could sneak out. Totals: 4 deer, 2 bucks and 2 does.

We hung it yesterday and we are calling it Dead On Arrival. “DOA”. I sat until 9:30 am. Nothing happening. Totals: 0 deer.

Thursday, September 25, 2025 pm Sunset 7:02 pm Hunting closes at 7:32 pm Temperature 75degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: N- NW 2-4 mph. I am back behind the barns at Copper for an evening sit. At 5:15 pm, I had a nice big fat doe 50 yards behind me, just west of the valley road. At 5:30 pm, I had a small doe come off the west hill to the south of me about 80 yards away and she headed across the food plot and to the east and up the hill. At 7:03 pm, I had a doe come across the opening 1/3 of the way up the hill to the east of me going from south to north. It may have been the same doe that I saw earlier. At 7:08, a big doe with 2 fawns came in from the east down the hill into the food plot. They stayed about 30 yards away from me. I got down after dark and the does spooked from the food plot. Totals 6 deer. 6 does.

Thursday, September 25, 2025 am Sunrise: 6:54 am Hunting opens at 6:24 am. Temperature 54 degrees. Mostly sunny Wind: N- NE 0-2 mph. First day to hunt this season. Out at Copper Creek with Kyle. I decided to go behind the barn on the north side. The stand got moved about 20 yards to the north and I had a little trouble finding it, but was all set up right at first light. At 7:10 am, I looked up and there was a doe with 2 fawns in the food plot 75 yards to the south of me. They ate in the plot for over an hour. At 8:10 am, I had 2 does come behind me from the NW about 60 yards away heading to the south. They stayed up on the hillside to the east of me. At 9:30 am, I looked across the hill to the east of me and there was a doe on the road half way up the hill heading to the north of me. Totals: 6 deer. 6 does.

Saturday, November 16, 2024 am Sunrise 6:59 am Hunting opens at 6:29 am. Temperature 41 degrees Wind: E- SE 5-10 mph. Mostly cloudy. This morning I decided to give the Sue’s Lookout another shot. The wind is not ideal, but I will only be hunting until 11:00 am, so I can get back because we are going to Madison for the Badgers versus Oregon football game. At 10:05 am, Steve had gotten down from the river view stand and on his way out through the east valley, he kicked up a small 8 point buck to me. He came off the hill from the NE about 50 yards to the north of me. He then head across the hill to the north. That was it. Totals: Bob 1 deer. 1 buck.

Saturday, November 9, 2024 am Sunrise 6:51 am Hunting opens at 6:21 am. Temperature 38degrees Wind: E- SE 5-10 mph. Mostly sunny. This morning I decided to give the Sue’s Lookout another shot. The wind is not ideal, but I will only be hunting until 10:00 am, so I can get back home for Charley’s hockey game. At 7:10 am, I heard a grunt to the north of me. I grunted a few times and a couple of minutes later a 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer came walking in. He came to within 10 yards and hung around for 10 minutes. I got some great video. At 7:20 am, I heard something to the north of me and a small 6 pointer was standing 15 yards to the north of me. He hung around for almost 30 minutes within 50 yards of me. At 9:30 am, I had a basket 8 come in from the north. He walked across down to the SW about 40 yards away. I sat until 10:00 am. Fun morning. Total. 3 deer, 3 bucks.

Friday, November 8, 2024 am Sunrise 6:49 am Hunting opens at 6:19 am. Temperature 38degrees. Sunset 4:46 pm. Hunting closes at 5:16 pm. Wind: W- NW 3-5 mph. Mostly sunny. This morning I decided to give the new ladder water hole stand on the north side where the old platform stand was. At 6:35 am, I caught a glimpse of a deer that was north of me about 125 yards away. I am not sure what it was. At 11:00 am, I looked over my shoulder to the north and there was a big doe 125 yards out on the road heading south. She ended up heading down into the woods to the SE. I got down at 11:20 pm went inside and grabbed some lunch and headed back out at 1:20 pm. In the afternoon, I decided to give Sue’s Lookout a try up by the garage on the north side on top I had to trim a few shooting lanes, but it didn’t take long. At 2:05 pm, I had a really mature tall and thick 8 pointer walk by below me at 42 yards going from south to north. I tried grunting to him be he just kept slowing walking. At 3:05 pm, I had another big buck chasing a dies about 80 yards down the hill going from south to north. That was it. Totals: 5 deer. 3 does and 2 shooter bucks.

Thursday , November 7, 2024 am Sunrise 6:47 am Hunting opens at 6:17 am. Temperature 42 degrees. Sunset 4:47 pm. Hunting closes at 5:17 pm. Wind: N-NW 3-5 mph. Mostly sunny. This morning I decided to give the Money Stand behind the barns another shot. I brought Fuzzy and set him up about 20 yards to the west of me we will see if he can draw some interest. At 6:44 am, a small nubbin buck came down the valley from the west. He got to within 10 yards of Fuzzy. He was curious, but never spooked. He hung around for a few minutes and slowly fed off to the south of me. At 7:40 am, I looked behind me to the SE and I had a nice buck on the road heading to the north of me. I grunted to him as he stopped and saw Fuzzy. He then turned and trotted up to the east. I took a 2 hour break to get some work done from 11:00-1:00, and then headed back out to the Money Stand. Wind were swirling until about 4:15 pm and then the died down. At 4:50 pm, I had 2 does and a small buck came in from the east. The 2 does ended up coming up by me and hung around for 30 minutes. The buck stayed on the other side of the valley and headed back to the east. That was it. Totals: 5 deer. 2 bucks and 3 does.

Wednesday, November 6, 2024 Sunset 4:48 pm. Hunting closes at 5:18 pm. Temperature 46 degrees Wind: N-NW 5-10 mph. Mostly cloudy. After not seeing anything this morning, I decided to head in and regroup and try something else. I went looking for the new Key West stand, but I was not able to find it. I decided to back out and go to Gunners Gultch. I brought fuzzy and put him out about 20 yards to the south of me. At 4:35 pm, I had a doe sneak in from the west to about 50 yards. She must have seen Harry, because she spooked back up to the NW. That was it. Totals: 1 deer. 1 doe.

Tuesday, November 5, 2024 am Sunset 4:49 pm. Hunting closes at 5:19 pm. Temperature 49 degrees Wind: S-SW 5-10 mph. Mostly cloudy. Raining. I drove back down from Cannon Falls today. I got to Copper around 1:30 pm. Kyle arrived around lunchtime. Because it was raining, he went to the Ballagio and I went to the Stump blind in the Blue Bird field. I was ready to go by 2:00 pm. It is not ideal conditions, but the blinds make it tolerable. At 5:08 pm, I had a small 6-7 pointer buck come down the hill from the south. He ran down to my fuzzy decoy. He did like what he saw and he blew and headed back up to the south of me. That was it. Totals: 1 deer. 1 small buck.

Saturday, November 2, 2024 am Sunrise 7:41 am Hunting opens at 7:11 am. Sunset 5:53 pm. Hunting closes at 6:23 pm. Temperature 42 degrees Wind: S-SW 5-10 mph. Mostly sunny. I decided to give the the Hydration Nation stand a try this morning. At 10:45 am, I had a doe and a nubbin buck sneak in from the south behind me. They slowly worked their way down the hill towards the NE. They got to about 40 yards and bedded down. At 12:30, I got down and moved to Double D. At 4:25 pm, I heard something above me to the west. A small doe came down the hill going from west to east. Then 2 more came down the hill behind her. I was hoping a buck was following them. They got to the north of me and stopped. They sniffed around for a while and the headed back up the hill to the NW. At 4:55 pm, I heard something behind me and saw a doe down towards the valley going from north to south. That was it. Totals: 6 deer. 6 does and fawns.

Friday, November 1, 2024 am Sunrise 7:39 am Hunting opens at 7:09 am. Sunset 5:54 pm. Hunting closes at 6:24 pm. Temperature 42 degrees Wind: N-NE. 3-5 mph. Mostly sunny. I decided to go to the new ladder that replace the north fort stand. I am super excited to be out for the first hunt of the season. At 8:20 am, I had a small 6 pointer chasing a doe 50 yards to the SE of me going to the south of me. At 8:30 am, I had a big doe come across the field 125 yards out going from west to east. At 9:00 am, I had a big doe come in from the south. She got to about 40 yards and turned around and walked back to the south. At 9:25 am, I saw 2 does about 75 yards to the south of me. One of them was probably the one I saw at 9:00 am. At 11:00 am, the wind shifted to out of the SW. finally, at 6:05 pm, I had a nice 10 pointer come from the north about 70 yards to the west of me. He headed off to the south. Totals: 7 deer. 5 does and 2 bucks. 1 shooter.

Friday, November 10, 2023 am.

Friday, November 10, 2023 am Sunrise 6:48 am Hunting opens at 6:18 am Temperature 31degrees. Wind: W-NW 10-15 mph. Mostly sunny. I went to the tree saddle out on first point water hole. I was ready to go by 6:00 am. I sat until 8:00 am there and then I got down. I just could not get comfortable. I guess those are made for younger more agile hunters. I moved down to Bladder Balloon. I sat until 11:15 am and decided to get down and try my luck elsewhere. Steve was out at QDM and saw 2 bucks and 4 does. Nothing for me. Totals: Bob. 0 deer.
