Saturday, November 6, 2021 pm Sunset 5:49 pm Hunting closes at 6:19 pm Temperature 59 degrees. Wind: S-SE 10-15 mph. Kurt had some good action last night, so I decided to head to Twin Towers. I was ready to go by 2:40 pm. Nothing happened all night until right before closing. I heard something coming from the creek bottom to the SW of me. A really nice shooter buck stepped out into the shooting lane to the west of me at 20 yards. I had my binoculars up, but it was tough to tell how big he was in the shooting lane in the woods. Finally he stepped out into the field and I could tell he was a nice tall and wide 10+ pointer. I decided I was going to take the shot. He was out in the edge of the field at 30 yards and stopped. I settled my 30 yard pin on his chest and shot. Unfortunately, I clipped a branch at the edge of the field and my arrow ended up going right under his chest. Ugh. I was so disappointed. He wasn’t sure what happened, but he trotted out of range to the east. I got down after dark and confirmed what I already knew that I had missed. Bummer. Totals: Bob - 1 deer, 1 buck.

I pray that the wind is less then yesterday. We will have to wait and see. At 7:25 am, I had a small doe come across the hill going from north to south about 30 yards to the west of me. At 7:35 am, I looked over to the SE and there was another doe on the hillside about 40 yards away. The first doe, ended up coming up the hill and walked by me at 20 yards heading to the east. The 2nd doe, ended up heading off to the off to the north about 40 to the east of me. At 12:05 pm, nothing had been happening since this morning, so I tried to do some rattling. I hit the horns and a nice mature 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer was behind me. He kind of spooked and trotted down the hill to the north of me about 60 yards away. He continued down the ridge going SW and he then turned and went up the hill to the west. He was not a shooter, but fun to see. The neighbor to the east was driving his ATV around and it has been fairly slow, so at 1:30 pm I decided to get down and change locations. Totals: Bob - 3 deer. 2 does and 1 buck.

With the tractor and some ingenuity we were able to get the legs on and the Banks Blind up in Bluebird field. I did a quick towel down and headed back out. I went to Double D to get out of some of the wind and Kurt went over to Twin Towers. I was set up and ready to go by 3:00 pm. I am sure hoping the wind dies down some. Nothing. Kurt did have some solid action at TT. Several smaller bucks chasing does and 1 decent buck. Nothing big close enough to shoot though.

At 10:25 am, I did a loud rattling sequence with a pair of sheds. 5 minutes later a small 1 1/2 year old 8 point basket rank buck came up the hill on the road from the north. At 30 yards, he dropped over the hill and kept walking to the south. He popped back out on the road about 40 yards to the SE of me and then head down the ridge to the SW. we planned on sitting all day, buy it started to get really windy during the late morning, so we decided to get down and head in to put up the Banks Stump Blind in Blue Bird field. we git down at 12:15 pm Totals: Bob - 2 deer, 1 buck and 1

At 12:30 pm, I saw 2 tails 100 yards down the hill to the NW, then I saw another big buck chasing after them. At 1:00 pm, I saw another doe being chased by a buck. I decided to head to the QDM ladder stand. Kurt went to Bladder Balloon and Dan went to the ladder stand on Blue Bird field. We were all in and ready to go by 3:10 pm. At 4:35 pm, I looked to the north and I saw a doe with a buck chasing her. I saw him try and mount her, but she wanted nothing to do with it. He was a solid 125” 8 pointer. They got as close as 8 yards away but they took back off to the north. Five minutes later they came back. This time to within 18 yards of the stand to the west of me. He tried to mount her again. I got some good video. Another doe came through behind me and there was another smaller 8 pointer following the bigger buck. The one doe continue to the south behind me and the other doe and 2 bucks went off to the north. He was a great buck, but I am looking for something a bit bigger. At 6:10 pm, I saw a tail up the hill to the south of me. At dark when I was getting down, I spooked a deer to the south and another on the road to the SE of me. I headed out to Arlie’s Food plot. The plan is to sit until 10:00 am, pack up, get some work done and head down to Copper for the evening hunt. At 8:00 am, I did a rattling sequence, and saw a tail bounding over by the spaghetti junction stand. I am not sure what it was. Wednesday, October 27, 2021 pm Sunset 6:07 pm Hunting closes at 6:37 pm Temperature 52 degrees. Cooler Wind: S-SE 10-15 mph. I thought that Charley was going to join me for tonight’s sit, but instead she wanted to do a church thing with her buddy Lydia. I got over my disappointment quickly, as this decision gave me more options. I decided to head down to the VAT ladder stand. I have seen so many does from the food plot, I figured I would change stand locations and maybe they wouldn’t know I was there. I got out later then I wanted, but I was still settled in by 4:30 pm. At 5:40 pm, a small 1 1/2 year old 4-5 pointer came into the food plot from the south about 40 yards away. He ate for about 15 minutes, but was on edge the whole time. He ended up trotting off to the west. At 6:00 pm, a doe with 2 fawns came into the plot from the west. The two fawns came through about 20 yards away. The big doe stayed a bit further out. After about 15 minutes she started feeding towards me and got to about 12 yards, but she stayed out of my shooting lane. She finally came through about 10 yards away to the north, but I decided to pass. If Charley had been with me, I would have shot her for sure. Still fun to see. Totals. Bob 4 deer. 1 buck and 3 does.

Wednesday, October 27, 2021 am Sunrise 7:42 am. Hunting opens at 7:12 am. Temperature 43 degrees. Cooler Wind: S-SE 15-20 mph. I haven’t been able to hunt because of work and being gone in Mexico City for MEA weekend. I decided to sneak out for a few hours this morning. Initially I went to the Apple Tree, but shortly after I got in, Gertie had followed me down the hill and was running around the base of my stand and would not leave. I had to walk back to the house with her and then decided to give Arlie’s Food Plot ladder stand a try. Throughout the morning, I tried some grunt ring and rattling sequences, but nothing was happening. Too windy. I was only able to sit until 9:40 am. Nothing to report. Totals: Bob. 0 deer.

Heidi is out too. She decided to go to Arlie’s ladder stand. At 5:40 pm, we had a big doe and 2 fawns come into the food plot from the west. The big doe got to 30 yards but she was quartering towards us. One of the fawns kept running around playing. She must have run into and out of the plot 5-6 times. It was fun for us to watch. It was a close opportunity. At 6:25 pm, a doe and a fawn came down the road from the west. They slowly worked their way into the food plot. They sensed something was up and never committed and they headed back to the west. That was it. Heidi saw one 4 point buck but passed up on him at 15 yards. Totals: Bob and Charley - 5 does and fawns. Heidi- 1 buck.

Saturday, October 2, 2021 pm Sunset 6:48 pm Hunting closes at 7:18 pm Temperature 74 degrees. Humid Mostly cloudy. Wind: W 7-10 mph. Back out again tonight. I have Charley and we are back in VAT. Heidi went to the Arlie’s food plot. Adam hunted there on Monday night and shot a nice 130”+ 10 pointer. It was his first buck with a bow and it was great to have him connect on a mature animal. We were ready to go by 4:45 pm. At 6:00 pm, we had a fawn come running through from the south about 40 yards to the east of us. Too small and no shot. At 6:15 pm, a doe and 3 fawns came running through from the north about 20-40 yards to the east of us. No shots. Something spooked them for sure. At 6:40 pm, a fawn came through from south to north about 30 yards to the east of us. Fun to see. Good action. At 7:00 pm, things started to get interesting. We had 2 mature does and a fawn come into the food plot from the south. They came through at 10 yards, but they were looking up and us and on edge. Charley sat completely still. They ended up circling us. The fawn was perfectly broadside at 10 yards, but I didn’t want to shoot a fawn. Something spooked the mature does and they trotted back through the food plot. They both stopped on the edge of the plot about 22 yards to the south of me. I was at full draw and let the bigger of the 2 does have it. We saw my arrow fly true and they took off to the south. Charley was so pumped up and she squealed “we got her dad!” We waited until close and got down to go look for blood. Immediately, we found the back 1/2 of my arrow with the luminock. There was considerable blood and we follow it for about 30 yards. She jumped the creek, so we backed out and headed back to the house. After dinner, the 3 of us drove the ATV down and parked it on the edge of the field. We got back on the blood trail and followed it for another 25-30 yards and found her. There were smiles and high fives by all. I am not going to lie, it was better then shooting my biggest buck with a bow to have her with me. Totals: Bob and Charley. 8 does and fawns. 1 does down. Heidi. 1 doe and fawn.

Heidi went to the AT. It is pretty hot so we didn’t get out until 5:40 pm. At 7:25 pm, a doe and fawn came into the food plot from the south on the road that runs through the creek. It was on top of us and I couldn’t draw. The fawn would have been the best shot, but we only want to take mature does. That was it. Totals. Bob and Charley 2 deer 2 does.

Saturday, September 18, 2021 pm Sunset 7:15 pm Hunting closes at 7:45 pm Temperature 76 degrees. Mostly sunny Wind: S-SE 7-10 mph. Back out again tonight. This time I brought a guest. Charley wanted to join me for the on hunt. We decided to go to the rebuilt VAT stand. It was pretty warm initially, but by 5:30 the clouds had gotten below the trees and we were in the shade. At 6:35 pm, 2 does were down in the creek about 50 yards to the south from us. I spotted them and told Charley to get down. She was super excited and moved too quickly. They saw us for sure. They both came into the food plot about 35 yards away and they were both locked on to us and they were super nervous. They ended up blowing and trotting off to the west. Fun to see. At 6:55 pm, a doe with 2 fawns came down from the SE. they were down by the creek, but must have spotted us. They ended up blowing and heading back to the east. At 7:25 pm, I looked over my left shoulder to the NE and there was a fawn standing 8 yards away from us. I could see there was another deer behind it. For some reason they spooked and they ended up jogging through the food plot and headed off to the west. It was 2 adult does and 1 fawn. Totals: Bob and Charley - 8 deer, all does and fawns.
Saturday, September 18, 2021
Saturday, September 18, 2021 am Sunrise: 6:54 am Hunting opens at 6:24 am. Temperature 46 degrees. Mostly sunny Wind: S-SE 0-2 mph. Bow hunting opener. Super pumped. I decided to head to the newly built Apple Tree stand. It is about 6 feet higher in the tree so it makes for a steeper angle on the shot, but it is much bigger and more comfortable. It didn’t take long. At 6:50 am, I looked to the SE and there was a beautiful mature 10 pointer that was thrashing a willow tree about 100 yards away. I grunted to him a few times but he walked off to the north. Closest he got was 75 yards away. At 7:20 am, I heard something behind me and a doe and fawn came through from behind me. They circled around the stand at 10 yards and headed off to the north. With that big 10 pointer in the area, I didn’t want to mess around with her especially since Heidi will be out tonight. I stayed until 9:15 am. Totals: Bob 3 deer, 1 buck and 2 does.
