Sunday, November 9, 2014 am. Sunrise 6:51 am. Hunting opens 6:21 am. Temperature: 38 degrees. Wind: S-SW changing to W 5-10 mph. Mostly sunny. Charley has been cutting teeth and has been running a fever since Monday. It has definately cut into my ability to hunt. I feel so bad for the little peanut. She started to feel better yesterday, so after Heidi's bow hunt in MN, she let me drive down to Copper. I got down around 8:15 pm. This morning I went up the the double ladder stand off first point. Taylor went to Acorn Alley. I was in and set up by 6:00 am. At 8:45 am, I had a smal doe/nubbin about 90 yards down the hil to the NW. At 9:45 am, I saw a doe trotting across the hillside to the west of me. She came down the hill and bedded about 30 yards to the SW of me. Behind her was a nice 3 1/2 year old 8 pointer. He stood back in the brush about 15 yards behind her. Another doe came over the hill behind him to the west of him. After about 10 minutes, He started to chase the second doe. She took off to the north. With all the commotion, the bedded doe got up and trotted off to the south and the buck follow her. I did get some video, but thee was no shot opportunity. At 11:40 am. I looked down the hill to the north and a small 7 pointer was working his way up the hill towards me. He walked through about 40 yards to the west of me and crossed over the top of the hill to the south bi rid get done video. I am pretty sure it was threesome buck that Taylor had seen an hour earlier. At 2:20 pm. I got down and moved to Twin Towers. On my way into a twin towers, I dropped a scent line on my way into the stand from the creek bottom. When I got to The stand, I had to move a v ladder that Steve had put on the east stand. After I got into the stand, I realized the milk crate that I was going to sit on was on the east stand. I had created a lot of noise moving the ladder, so I figured I was going to stand. Unfortunately, the stand had not been cleared out, so I was better off propping myself up on my backpack and butt pad. At 4:50 pm, I saw the siloutte of a deer coming up from the creek bottom about 60 yards to the east of me going north towards the corn field. I tried to see what it was but it was too dark and in the brush. I decided to do two short doe bleats to see if I could convince it to come my way. Immediately after I bleated, I heard some corn stalks break to my north. It was a nice buck coming from east to west at 23 yards away. I saw that he had some decent time length and knew this was going to be my last hunt. I decided that if I could stop him in the smll window under the tree canopy and between the corn stalks I would take the shot. I was about to grunt and stop him and he just stopped perfectly in the only opening that I had. I drew back, settled the pin and shot. I say my arrow hit. It sounded great and the buck took off to the west. I heard a ton of loud crashing for about 10 seconds and the it was silent. After dark, I got down and snuck out to the east, past Black diamond and out to the road bi texted Taylor to bring his bow case and come and pick me up on the road bi didn't want to walk down to the creek bottom and start the ATV and rush spooking the deer. We waited for and hour and 15 minutes and decided to go and look. We drive the car down to the pull out and walked in past Black Diamond. We got the lanterns lit and it didn't take long to find the arrow and blood. He broke off about 8" of arrow that was still in him. We were fortunate that there was incredible amount of blood. He ran west about 30 yards, jumped the barbed wire fence and ran about 30 yards down the hill and died He is a beautiful 9 pointer with an awesome split brow tine. I am guessing a 3 1/2 year old buck. What an awesome day. Super happy to celebrate the harvest with my good friend Taylor. Thanks for your help. Totals: 7 deer b3 bucks and 4 does. 1 buck down!!!
