Copper Creek bucks

Attached are thre photos.  Two are of the same buck.  He has nice potential, but really needs another year.  The other is a beast.  He looks like an offspring of the "Chris Farley" buck that was killed by the neighbor last year.  Thoughts?

Oklahoma Thursday, November 14th

Well I know Bob was in Wisconsin having some success so I have it a go this afternoon. I had to hustle to get to the stand but was in and set up by 4:00. It was 50 degrees and the south wind was blowing pretty solid at 20 mph. I was adjust my seat when I saw something move to the north of me. I had hung a scent wick with the rut started I figured why not?! So I had done some grunting like a buck tending a doe. It may have been the trigger that sent the buck my direction. So, needless to say the movement I saw was a nice 8 pointer. He was straight downwind of me and was still closing the distance. He sensed something wasn't quite right though. He was at 30 yards but I didn't have a shot at him. He never blew and took off, just turned and headed back north.
Nate 1 deer, 1 shooter buck.

Thursday, November 14, 2013 am and pm

Thursday, November 14, 2013 am. Sunrise: 6:43 am. Hunting opens: 6:13 am. Temperature 30 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: S-SE 10-15 mph. It is good to be back out in Wisconsin. I drove down late last night to Copper and arrived around 11:15 pm. I got up this morning at 4:45 am, and went to Dan's gun stand out on the first point I was ready to go by 5:55 am. At 6:15 am, I had a small doe come in from the east. It was still pretty dark, but it was nice to have some action to start my day. She ended up heading up the hill to the SE. At 7:30 am, the chainsaws n heavy equipment started. They are cutting timber on the property to the east. I stayed until 9:00 am, and then moved to the goat prarie stand. I sat there until 11:20 am, but didn't see anything. I grabbed the camera chips, and headed in for lunch. I had a quick lunch of venison, and headed back out. I went to Steve's new portable stand over the watering hole. I was all set and ready to go by 12:30 pm. It didn't take long, I heard something to my SE and it was a small 3-4 point buck traveling along the property line to the north. He was about 75 yards across from me. He ended up getting downwind and he spooked back up towards the SE. At 3:55 pm, I had a beautiful 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer come down off the hill from the SW. He walked right down the road towards me. Got some great video of him. He even stopped at my scent wick. I had him round for 15 minutes as close as 17 yards. He has great potential, so I had to let him walk. Regardless, it was fun to see. At 4:45 pm, a doe and fawn came down the road to the east of me going from north to south. I would have had a shot, but there was no shooting lane that had been cut. At 5:00 pm, another doe did the same thing, but she was closet and in the wash out. It was getting pretty dark, and I want to save my one tag. Overall, a solid day. Totals: Bob - 6 deer, 4 does and fawns and 2 bucks.

Romance Bucks

The 1 buck appears to be a nice 9-10 pointer in the creek bottom.  The other is High beams.  He is the same buck I had on video at about 35 yards earlier in the season.

Copper Creek bucks

I know the camera says 2012, but these bucks are from 2013.  Both 150'+ deer in my opinion.

Friday, November 8, 2013 pm

Friday, November 8, 2013 pm. Sunset: 4:58 pm. Hunting closes: 5:28 pm. Temperature: 38 degrees. Mostly cloudy. Wind: E-SE 20-25 mph. I have to pick up Charley from daycare at 4:00, but it is the last day before MN gun season so I decided to maximize my time in the stand. i decided to go to Arlie's Knob. I was in position at 1:00 pm. I did kick up a small doe to the north of the ladder on my way in to the stand. I will only be able to sit until 3:30 pm. Heidi is going to sneak down to the VAT around 3:00 pm. I didn't see anything.  Heidi did see a nice fat doe and she bedded down on the oposite side of the old VAT stand.  She never presented a shot for her.  Totals:  Bob - 0 deer.  Heidi - 1 deer, 1 doe.

Some nice target bucks in Cannon Falls

Here are several nice bucks that are in the area.  I hope they are still alive after the MN gun opener last weekend.  I think there are at least 3 seperate bucks.  Maybe an 8, 9 and 10 pointer.  Hope they can survive the gun season.

Friday, November 8, 2013 am

Friday, November 8, 2013 am. Sunrise: 6:58 am. Hunting opens: 6:28 am. Temperature: 27 degrees. Mostly cloudy. Wind: S-SE 15-20. After a week off because of training in Chicago, I was finally able to get back at it. I decided to head to Right Field this morning.  I was ready to go by 6:10 am. At 6:55 am, I had a nice sized doe come in from the SW. She walked through and crossed the fence at 10 yards. She must have winded, me as she circled me to the north and ended up heading down the hill towards border patrol. She never spooked, but was nervous. At 7:25 am, I heard something to the SE of me bit was a nice 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer. Good mass, tall, but not real wide. Not a shooter. He stayed in the corner about 40 yards away from me. I grunted a few times, but he ended up walking off to the SE. At 7:30 am, I had a nice big doe cross from east going west about 50 yards to the north of me. She never spooked and just kept heading to the west. I was doing a fair amount of grunting a bleating all morning. At 8:25 am, I had a small 5 point 1 1/2 year old come up from the west on the main trail bye walked in to 10 yards. I did get done video of him. When he got downside of me, he got nervous and headed back down to the NW. That was it. I sat until 9:40 am and got down. Totals: Bob 4 deer, 2 bucks and two does.

Wednesday November 6th

Well this is the second time I have been out this year and had checked the camera periodically and had a few visitors. I had a north wind 5-10 and it was clear and should've been a great sit, but as hunting goes nothing showed up. Nate 0 deer 1.

Saturday, November 2, 2013 am

Saturday, November 2, 2013 am. Sunrise: 7:42 am. Hunting opens: 7:12 am. Temperature: 37 degrees. Mostly sunny. Wind: W-NW 5-10 mph. I decided to try my luck back again at Everest. I was all set up by 6:45 am, with Harry the decoy to the north of me. I hope he will get a big boy's attention. At 8:35 am, I looked up the hill to the north of me and saw a doe with two fawns on the road about 80 yards above me. I grunted a few times, but they continue along to the east. At 8:40 am, I heard a few soft grunts to the NW. I then saw a small 8 pointed on the hill about 60 yards to the north of me. He is just a 1 1/2 year old buck. I grunted and he started to come down the hill towards me. He saw the decoy and didn't like what he saw. I started to blow a warning call. I did get some video of him, but he ended up walking off towards the north. I sat until 11:15 am, then got down. Totals: Bob 4 deer. 3 does and fawns and 1 buck.

Friday, November 1, 2013 all day

Friday, November 1, 2013 am. Sunrise: 7:41 am. Hunting opens: 7:11 am. Temperature: 44 degrees. Mostly cloudy. Misting in the am. Wind: W-NW 5-10 mph. I drove down to Wisconsin last night as Charley was getting ready for bed. I got  up this morning and decided to give Everest a shot. I brought "Harry" my 1 antlered buck decoy with me this morning. I had him set up about 15 yards away to the NW facing towards me. I was all set and ready to go by 6:45 am. Nothing to report in the am. I sat until 12:20 pm and the I got down to check the cameras and to take a conference call at 1:00 pm. I was able to take care of everything by 1:30 pm, so I turned around and headed back out to Everest. I was all set up again by 2:00 pm. Sunset: 5:56 pm. Hunting closes: 6:26 pm. It didn't take long. At 2:15 pm, I did a grunting sequence. At 2:25 pm, a beautiful mature 8-9 point buck came off the top to the N-NE of me. He came down the hill and got as close as 35 yards, but my shot was obstructed by brush. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any video of him. He headed down the hill to the SE towards Octopussy. I tried grunting and snort wheezing him but he never came in. I am not sure he ever even saw the decoy. Damn. Very close. At 2:35 pm, I looked up the hill in the same direction as before and there was another mature buck about 75 yards up the hill on the old logging road. I grunted to him several times. After about 10 minutes he decided to come down and investigate. He walked across the hill to the N-NW of me about 50 yards away. I am sure he saw the decoy. The wind must have shifted as he sensed something wasn't right and went back up the hill to the north. He was smaller then the first buck, but a nice 2 1/2-3 1/2 year old with potential. I did get some video of him. At 4:40 pm, I looked down the hill to the SE and could see a buck about 50 yards down the hill. He was cutting across the hill going from east to west. I tried to get his attention, but he continued down towards the Octopussy stand. I saw him go right fown the trail. He must have walked by our camera. I am not sure how big his rack was, but he appeared to be a mature buck. That was it. Overall, a great day. Totals: Bob - 3 deer, 3 bucks. All mature animals
